A Lennox mini-split installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130 to $8,850 for a complete system, depending on the number of indoor units and the complexity of the line set run. If you already have a Lennox mini-split and a component has failed, replacement parts like an indoor blower motor, control board, or outdoor inverter board usually run $175 to $675 installed, and we can often have the unit running same day or next day. Most San Jose homeowners discover a failure the hard way: the indoor unit is running but blowing warm air, the outdoor unit is silent, or the system throws an error code that won’t clear. You want the right Lennox part matched to your exact model, priced before we start, and installed by someone who’s done it enough times to know the gotchas.

We’re Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Jose, and we’ve been fixing and installing Lennox equipment in San Jose since 2003. Victor Mancini, our owner, keeps a logbook of every job he’s ever done and checks it before every estimate, so when he walks into a Willow Glen living room or a Berryessa garage, he already knows what that particular model tends to do wrong.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox mini-splits fall under a few main product families: the MLA and MWMA single-zone lines, the MPB and MPC multi-zone heat pump systems, and the newer MCA and MHA series. Each series uses different control boards, blower assemblies, and inverter components, so a part from an MLA outdoor unit will not always drop into an MPC outdoor unit even if the physical cabinet looks similar. The surest way to match the right installation part is to pull the model number off the data plate on the side of the outdoor condenser and the inside of the indoor unit’s front panel, then share it with us when you call. We match OEM Lennox parts first, because inverters and control boards in particular are tuned to the compressor’s exact voltage and frequency profile. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for things like blower wheels, capacitors, and drain pumps, but we have learned the hard way that aftermarket inverter boards on Lennox mini-splits create more callbacks than they save. We stock common Lennox mini-split parts on the truck and can order anything we don’t carry for next-day pickup at our San Jose parts house.

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
- Indoor unit runs, but the air is room temperature or slightly cool. This usually means the outdoor unit’s compressor isn’t actually running, even though the indoor fan is. The inverter board or a failed compressor drive is the prime suspect, and the system will often hide it behind a generic error code.
- Outdoor unit is completely silent when it should be running. On Lennox mini-splits, the most common cause is a failed inverter control board or a blow capacitor inside the outdoor cabinet. A dead outdoor fan motor alone won’t stop the compressor, but it will cause the system to cycle off on high pressure within minutes.
- Error code on the indoor display that won’t clear with a power cycle. Lennox codes like E1 (communication fault), F8 (refrigerant charge fault), or P4 (compressor drive error) point to specific failed components, and clearing the code without replacing the part just means the system shuts down again within a day or two.
- Unit short-cycles: starts, runs for a few minutes, stops, and repeats. This is often a failing thermistor or a refrigerant charge issue, but we also see it when the outdoor unit has lost communication with the indoor control board due to a chewed wire or corroded connector.
- Water leaking from the indoor unit onto the floor or wall. The condensate drain line or drain pump has failed or clogged. On Lennox mini-splits, the drain pump is a small, enclosed unit that can burn out, and a cracked drain pan from age will leak regardless of how clear the line is.

DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely check yourself: clean the indoor unit’s washable filters, confirm the outdoor unit has power at the disconnect, and clear any debris blocking the outdoor coil. Those are all safe and take a few minutes. But a Lennox mini-split contains live 208/230-volt wiring, refrigerant under high pressure, and high-speed blower components that can cause serious injury if handled wrong. Opening the outdoor cabinet to test an inverter board without the right training and tools is not worth the risk. If you’ve checked the filters and the breaker and the system still misbehaves, call us at (669) 800-4179 and we’ll get a technician out with the right parts on the truck.
FAQs
A properly maintained Lennox mini-split in San Jose lasts 12 to 15 years on average, with the inverter board and blower motor being the parts most likely to fail first in years 8 through 12. The salty, damp air in areas like Alum Rock and Santana Row doesn’t do the outdoor electronics any favors, so regular coil cleaning matters. Call us at (669) 800-4179 if your system is reaching that age and acting up, and we’ll tell you honestly whether a repair or replacement makes sense.
Yes. Most failures we see in San Jose are single components like a control board, blower motor, or drain pump, and those are repairable for a few hundred dollars. Replacement only makes sense when the compressor itself has failed out of warranty or the system has a refrigerant leak in a location that cannot be reliably sealed. We’ll give you the straight answer either way, with a written price before we start.
Most component replacements, like an inverter board or blower motor, take 60 to 90 minutes on site. A full single-zone mini-split installation takes one day. A multi-zone system with two to four indoor heads typically takes one to two days, depending on the line set runs and wall access. We’ll give you a firm arrival window and stick to it.
We stock the common replacements: inverter boards for MLA and MCA series, blower wheels, drain pumps, thermistors, and capacitors. Less common parts are ordered and arrive next day from our San Jose parts supplier. When you call (669) 800-4179, we’ll ask for the model number and tell you right then whether we can fix it same day or need to order.
If your Lennox mini-split is down or acting up, don’t wait through another uncomfortable night. Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air San Jose at (669) 800-4179, tell us the model number and what the system is doing, and we’ll get a technician out with a written price before any work starts. Tell me what the system is doing and I will tell you what it needs, no guessing, no upselling.
